About Face Theatre will host Wonka Ball 2004, it’s 4th annual benefit for the nationally recognized, award-winning About Face Youth Theatre and related Education Outreach programs on Thursday, June 3 at Architectural Artifacts , 4325 N. Ravenswood, from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Chicago’s own Nate Berkus will serve as Honorary Co-Chair for this year’s event, along with Chicago notable Michael Leppen.
Wonka Ball 2004 will be Burning Hot, Chicago Hot. Set in a swinging 1930’s themed speakeasy, guests will enjoy the live jazz of the Ben Waggley Trio along with several of Chicago’s finest cabaret performances, in addition to hors d’oeuvres and cocktails provided by several of Chicago’s most superb caterers, including J&L Catering. The event will also feature an installation highlighting the About Face Youth Theatre’s current project, entitled Our City, Our Stories, to collect a living oral history of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community in Chicago.
Co-Chairing Wonka Ball 2004 are About Face Board members Gigi Belser and Ted Grady. Premiere sponsors of Wonka Ball 2004 include American Airlines, Architectural Artifacts, Nate Berkus Associates, Michael Leppen, Finlandia Vodka of Finland, J&L Catering, Mumm Champagne and Sidetrack Nightclub. About Face Theatre’s 2003-2004 Season Sponsors include Subaru, LaSalle Bank, Marshall Field’s, Orbitz, Windy City Times, Boystown Chicago, and Chicago Free Press.
The costs for Wonka Ball 2004 tickets are as follows:
VIP Admission is $250 per ticket. VIP Tickets Include an exclusive invitation to the Wednesday, June 30, gala opening of About Face Theatre's world premiere musical WINESBURG, OHIO at Steppenwolf Upstairs.
General Admittance is $150 per ticket. General Admittance will be $175 at the door.
All proceeds from Wonka Ball 2004 go directly to About Face Theatre and About Face Youth Theatre. About Face Theatre is Chicago’s only professional theatre dedicated to presenting work of universal relevance created by gay and lesbian artists and/or work that illuminates the human condition through the LGBTQ experience. Founded in 1995, About Face Theatre is celebrated for both its stage work and for its innovative educational programming arm, which works to increase the safety, empowerment, and leadership capacity of LGBTQ youth and their allies.
