Chicago, IL -
An Austin, Texas man is being held on charges that he murdered his daughter's lesbian lover and the woman's mother after months of family disputes about the relationship.
Police said that 59-year-old Jose Aviles showed up drunk at Norma Hurtado's house on Monday night, shot her, then shot her mother. Aviles' daughter was in the house, but was not hurt.
The Austin American-Statesman said that Aviles' daughter had just turned 18. Norma Hurtado was 24. The newspaper said that Facebook postings reveal a tumultuous relationship, but one that both were trying to hold together.
Police reports show that Aviles had sent at least one text message to Norma Hurtado, threatening to kill her.
He might be charged with a hate crime.
"It is something we will have to take a look at after the investigation is more complete," assistant district attorney Jackie Wood told the paper.
Aviles was arrested at a relative's house. That relative told police he showed up with a gun and said that he done something.
