Washington, D.C. - American taxpayers forked over $193 million over six years to get rid of and replace openly gay servicemembers.

That's according to a new General Accounting Office analysis, reported by the Washington Post.

The military discharged 3,660 gay and lesbian troops between 2004 and 2009.

The average cost per servicemember was nearly $53,000.
