The Christian creators of an anti-gay app told Apple they're not happy it's been pulled from iTunes.
The app, "The Manhattan Declaration," includes a long section justifying marriage as only possible between one man and one woman.
"Some who enter into same-sex and polyamorous relationships no doubt regard their unions as truly marital," the "Declaration" reads. "They fail to understand, however, that marriage is made possible by the sexual complementarity of man and woman, and that the comprehensive, multi-level sharing of life that marriage is includes bodily unity of the sort that unites husband and wife biologically as a reproductive unit."
The app is an extension of a website, ManhattanDeclaration.org, which asks followers to "sign" the declaration and share it with friends over Facebook.
Apple told ABC News the company removed the app over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in accordance with their policy to remove anything that offends "large groups of people." However, the group contends that Apple had already examined the app and found it non-objectionable.
"Yet Apple pulled the app shortly after a small but very vocal protest by those who favor gay marriage and abortion. These groups claim that the Manhattan Declaration promotes 'homophobia' and that its supporters are 'anti-gay.'" said the Manhattan Declaration writers in a press release. "We emphasize with great sincerity that 'disagreement' is not 'gay-bashing.'"
In the past, Apple has removed other apps, including one that allowed users to shake a baby to death.
