Halloween fun featured DJ Isis Muretech on Saturday, October 26, at Hydrate Nightclub in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood.
“Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year,” Muretech said. “Coming to Chicago (brings) a lot of great energy, costumes and spooky vibes.
“Spinning at Hydrate is about the music journey and adventure because, as residents DJs, we play a six-hour set. I can express myself as an artist and it’s fabulous to share my energy.”
Muretech, 37, who lives in Guadalajara, Mexico, has been a DJ for 11 years. She is a resident DJ for M.E.A.T parties in New York, for KY Martinez events in San Francisco, The Manor in Fort Lauderdale, Xion after-hours and Heretic Club in Atlanta, Reload in Los Angeles, Jubileo in Mexico, G-Circuit in Bangkok, El Mozo in Bogota, Industry club in Medellin and at Hydrate.
“Eleven years … time goes so fast,” Muretech said. “I remember my first time at Hydrate, I was so nervous, you know the big name that Hydrate has around the U.S., and for me to have the opportunity to DJ for the very first time was a great memory that I keep in my heart.
“The energy I bring to the dance floor, having this magic connection with the crowd, we speak the same language: music. Chicago has (been) such a big part in my heart, because people are so warm with me and they love what I do.”
She was last in Chicago in August for Northalsted Market Days.
“Every night (at) Hydrate (is) different and special,” Muretech said. “I remember one time (at Hydrate), it was snowing and I was afraid that people (wouldn’t) show up because of the weather. But (to) my surprise, it was a well-packed night and everyone was having their best time.”
Muretech was an evil vampire. “(I) love to dress up and give people a little visual energy.”
Two DJs To Watch: Jeremy Dava and Rue-D. “They have such a spark,” she said.
All-time Favorite DJ Gig: World Pride 2023 in Sydney, in front of 20,000 people.
In The DJ Booth: “As a DJ, you must bring your essence everywhere you go, but it’s true as well that you adapt your music according to the energy of the people. I can’t (play based on the) city or country; it is about the energy we are feeling at the moment.”
Female DJ Trailblazer: “With a great power comes great responsibility. That’s what I feel. I’m always looking for sound innovation, what’s going to be the extra for me to give. I love (this) community, which fulfills my soul and my heart in so many ways. Music will be always the answer.”
