The Chicago Red Stars play host to the North Carolina Courage on Saturday, June 10, in the team’s annual Pride Night. Gametime is 7 p.m., at Seatgeek Stadium (7000 South Harlem Avenue) in Bridgeview.
“I think our league is extremely inclusive. I think our club has embraced (the LGBTQ+ community) certainly since I’ve been here,” said Red Stars head coach Chris Petrucelli, in his second season with Chicago in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL); he has coached professionally and at length collegiately since 1985.
“I think it’s certainly good for everybody that we’re open minded about these things and that we’re handling these things appropriately. I think it’s good to see from a league perspective how welcoming we’ve been and then on the club level we’ve been into it; we’ve been supportive, and we will continue to be.”
The Red Stars offer a “Show Your Pride” ticket packet for this Saturday, which includes a match ticket and a Red Stars Pride t-shirt.
Also part of the Pride celebration:
- The first 1,000 fans will receive a Red Stars Pride bandana.
- Fans can sign the team’s banner near Gate C that will be displayed at the Chicago Pride Parade on Sunday, June 21.
- Drag Story Time with Aurora Divine.
- Information about select Chicagoland LGBTQIA+ organizations.
