A hammer-wielding man broke the window of a gay-owned bar in Rogers Park Monday night after shouting homophobic slurs, according to authorities.
A man and a woman were reportedly getting out of their car just before 6 p.m. Monday near R Public House, 1508 W. Jarvis Ave., when a man walked up and began shouting homophobic slurs and threatening them.
The victims continued walking and entered the bar.
That’s when police say the suspect entered the bar and shattered a window with a hammer.
The bar posted a picture of the broken window on Instagram and Twitter with the caption, "Nothing like a homophobic guy with a hammer yelling anti-gay slurs at customers and threatening them to shake up the night."
Police are investigating and it is not determined if this is a hate crime. No arrests have been made.
