Burbank, CA -
Melissa Joan Hart, star of the hit television series "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch," is set to direct an upcoming episode of Disney Channel's original series "So Weird."
The episode, titled "Snapshot," will guest-star her younger sister, Emily, whom Melissa will direct for the first time. The episode will shoot from June 14 to June 20 in Vancouver and will premiere on Disney Channel. Set visits and interviews are available upon request.
In "Snapshot," the group stumbles into a town where an ambitious photographer uses a mysterious camera that produces great portraits, but ends up stealing the souls of all those who are captured by its lens. Annie joins with the photographer's younger sister to convince the photographer to stop what she's doing and return the souls to the diminished townsfolk who posed for her.
"So Weird" is a half-hour, live-action drama that explores paranormal phenomena -- ghosts, UFOs, ESP, you name it. Using actual reported phenomena as a launching point, the series follows the exploits of 13-year-old Annie Thelen (Alexz Johnson), an exuberant, well-traveled, musically inclined girl who has an uncanny aptitude for attracting weird stuff.
Annie travels the country with rock star and single mom Molly Phillips (Mackenzie Phillips), an old friend of Annie's family, who is looking after Annie and helping her explore a budding musical career.
Along with Molly's son, Jack; head roadie Ned; his wife, Irene; and their two sons, Carey and Clu, Annie tours the nation by bus, encountering and exploring paranormal phenomena with each bend in the road. Annie attempts to solve these mysteries as they arise, using the "So Weird" Web site to gather clues and information.
Some of the show's notable guest stars include Henry Winkler in "Boo," Dionne Warwick in "Lost" and country-music sensation SHeDAISY in "Listen."
At 24, Melissa Joan Hart is a veteran of television, film and stage. She made her Broadway debut opposite Martin Sheen in "The Crucible." She also starred opposite William Hurt in the Circle Repertory production of "Beside Herself" and in the same company's production of Peter Hedges' "Imagining Brad."
Soon thereafter, Melissa was invited to become the youngest member of the Circle Repertory Lab Company.
The current star of the hit series "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch," Melissa made her mark in the title role of Nickelodeon's popular "Clarissa Explains It All." Her numerous television credits include the Emmy Award-winning movie "Christmas Snow"; "Family Reunion" (ABC); "Twisted Desire," opposite Daniel Baldwin; and "Saturday Night Live."
Melissa is working on several projects with her production company, Hartbreak Films, including "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch," which has recently made the move to The WB Network and signed through 2002. In 1998, she starred in and co-produced the Wonderful World of Disney movies "Sabrina Goes to Rome" and "Sabrina Down Under."
Melissa also recently appeared in her first starring feature-film role in the 20th Century Fox release "Drive Me Crazy," a romantic coming-of-age comedy. Her other feature-film credits include the memorable role as Yearbook Girl in the 1998 Columbia TriStar release "Can't Hardly Wait."
Emily Hart lends her voice to the role of Sabrina in the series' animated version. Emily Hart has previously guest-starred on "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" and appeared with her sister in the Showtime movie "The Right Connections," also starring several of their siblings and rap artist MC Hammer.
