German soccer agent calls team 'a bunch of gays'

Thu. July 15, 2010

Berlin - A top German soccer agent says in a new interview that the German futbol team is "a bunch of gays."

Michael Becker's comments were included in report called "New German Men." Becker represents Michael Ballack, the team captain.

The German soccer team had an excellent run in the World Cup, and placed third.

The "gay" comment is apparently a commentary on the team's playing style, which is a departure from previous teams. The current players tend to me adroit and lighter on their feet, while past players were more aggressive and brutal.

Becker also told the reporter writing "New German Men" the names of players he believes to be gay.

And he bashed players who were supposedly jealous of a Vanity Fair shoot involving Ballack, describing them as "mediocre, ugly, untalented, bureaucratic, provincial, unmanly or gay."

Team trainer Joachim Löw said he would not "stoop so low as to comment."

Becker now says the interviewer "misunderstood" him.
