Gay priest steals $1.3 because 'church owed it to him'

Wed. July 7, 2010

Waterbury, Conn. - In Connecticut, a gay Catholic priest stands accused of stealing $1.3 million dollars from his parish, in part because he disagreed with the church's stance on homosexuality.

Waterbury police arrested 64-year-old Rev. Kevin Gray on one count of first degree larceny.

Police say Gray was angry at the church for other reasons, too.

The arrest warrant said he "had grown to hate being a priest" because he the "worst church assignments" and he had to "fix problems made by the previous priests."

Prosecutors claim he spent the money on his American Express bills, Armani suits, male escorts, hotel rooms, and college tuition for a man he met in Central Park.

The Hartford Courant reports that Gray is currently living in New York City with a man about half his age.
