A Queer Pride launches weekly flash fundraiser to support Black organizations in need

Thu. June 4, 2020

As June marks the start of Pride month and many are looking forward to a welcome rainbow-filled distraction from the stress of the coronavirus pandemic, A Queer Pride is taking a bolder call to action.

The Chicago-based LGBTQ nightlife collective has announced There Is No Pride Without Justice, a weekly flash fundraiser series to raise funds for Black organizations in need.

“A Queer Pride is taking a clear stance against police brutality and discrimination faced by Black communities by using their platform and reach to uplift Black voices and their causes,” read a statement from the collective, which is a combined effort between Abhijeet, Bambi Banks-Couleé, Loren J and Scott Cramer.

Each week, A Queer Pride and other LGBTQ voices in Chicago will work together to boost A Queer Pride's Fundly that will collect donations to be split with various organizations addressing the evolving needs of Black people in Chicago at this time.

The goal is to raise $5,000 each week during the month of June.

Week One (June 1 - 7) of the There Is No Pride Without Justice fundraiser will benefit Brave Space Alliance, Chicago Freedom School and Chicago Community Bond Fund.

Week Two (June 8 - 14) will be split among Trans Justice Funding Project, Greater Chicago Food Depository and Black Youth Project.
