A star-studded, two-hour virtual concert is scheduled for Thursday, April 23, starting at 7 p.m. – to support LGBTQ+ nightlife professionals across the country who have been impacted by the stay-at-home orders amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Stonewall Inn Gives Back Live Concert is a fundraising live stream entertainment event presented by World of Wonder (RuPaul's Drag Race) and SIGBI (Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative), featuring such participants as Cyndi Lauper, Rufus Wainwright, Michelle Visage, Alan Cumming, Betty Who, and others.
"We are really excited about the event and can't wait for some of the emotional surprise performances," said Stacy Lentz, event organizer. "We hope to raise lots of funds for people who work in LGBTQ nightlife across the country. Anyone who works in LGBTQ nightlife can apply for a $1,000 grant that will be (awarded) based on need." (To apply for the grant, go to StonewallGivesback.com.)
Stoli is a concert sponsor and will offer 60-second videos of several Stoli Key West Cocktail Classic and LGBTQ+ bartenders and bar staff speaking about the importance of LGBT bars and clubs, and how the current world situation has impacted them.
"Stoli is beyond honored to Serve Pride with the Stonewall Inn Gives Bask Initiative's concert as we celebrate the resilience and creativity of our LGBTQ nightlife communities in the true spirit of Stonewall," said Patrik Gallineaux, Stoli's LGBTQ Program Manager. "It is a cornerstone of Stoli's LGBTQ+ programming to recognize the importance of our gay bars as the original community centers and safe spaces, and it is imperative to step up in (a) time of need to support the Bar Stars who continue to Serve Pride in the beauty of this legacy today."
Funds raised during the concert will be supporting grants of up to $1,000 for out-of-work LGBTQ+ community bartenders/staff.
The concert will be streamed at www.StonewallGivesBack.com and www.YouTube.com/WOWPresents.
