Washington, D.C. -
In 2003, as the U.S. military prepared to invade Iraq, CIA officials were apparently coming up with all kinds of bizarre plans, including a plan to portray former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein as gay.
CIA agents considered making a fake video showing an actor who looked like Hussein having sex with a teenage boy.
"It would look like it was taken by a hidden camera," a former CIA official told Washington Post blogger Jeff Stein. "Very grainy, like it was a secret videotaping of a sex session."
Then agents would flood Iraq with the video.
Ultimately the plan was tossed out.
"Saddam playing with boys would have no resonance in the Middle East -- nobody cares," another former CIA official told the Washington Post. "Trying to mount such a campaign would show a total misunderstanding of the target. We always mistake our own taboos as universal when, in fact, they are just our taboos."
The CIA apparently did make a video in which a pretend Osama bin Laden sat around a campfire drinking and discussing sexual conquests of boys with his cronies. That video has never seen the light of day.
