Special deals, specific hotels

Chicago, IL - Expedia is now trying to target gay and lesbian travelers with a special targeted subsection.

"Are you a Mr. and Mr.—or Ms. and Ms.?" the website cheerfully asks. "These lesbian and gay hotels and resorts won't bat an eyelash during check-in!"

Expedia says they've worked with the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association to offer travel guides to 15 "top gay destinations": San Francisco, Amsterdam, New Orleans, Puerto Vallarta, Barcelona, Berlin, Chicago, London, Los Angeles, New York City, Palm Springs, Paris, Provincetown, South Florida and Toronto.

In all, the website is currently offering deals at 418 hotels in dozens of countries, including Thailand, Canada, Israel and the United Arab Emirates.

In Chicago, the list of hotels ranges from the Quality Inn and Suites in Elk Grove Village on the low end of the price scale, to the Peninsula at $460/night.

The website also lists Gay Pride events with dates and links.

"This page was based on research illustrating the difficulty in finding LGBT-welcoming hotels," said Expedia Senior Vice President Tim MacDonald in a press release. "Our solution was vetted by a group of LGBT professionals at Expedia and a roundtable of gay travel community members.
