Wisconsin Gay couple and triplets at White House Easter Egg Roll

Thu. April 15, 2010

Forget about Disneyland. What could be more memorable for three seven-year-olds than a family outing to the White House Easter Egg Roll?

Dads Pat Brown and Dennis Kohler of Germantown gave their triplets a chance to answer that question. On April 5, they took Derek, Karissa and Isabella to the annual event on the south lawn of the White House. The highly sought-after tickets came to the Brown-Kohler family via Fair Wisconsin and the Equality Federation.

Kohler said he's not certain whether the kids could grasp the historic dimensions of their outing, but he's certain they had a great time. The entertainment began while they were standing in line to get through security, and it continued for two hours.

"The kids loved it," Kohler said. "There were a lot of different stations they could go to, from easter-egg coloring to miniature golf."

Although the family barely missed President Barack Obama's appearance at the event, they did glimpse his motorcade en route to the Washington Nationals' season opener, where the president threw out the first pitch.

Kohler said he saw several other same-sex couples and their families at the event, but there wasn't time to chat.

"We were too busy chasing kids," he said.
