Washington, DC -
The White House is not happy about CBS News' report that potential Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan is a lesbian.
Blogger Ben Domenech, a former Bush administration aide and Republican Senate staffer, wrote that President Obama would "please" much of his base by picking the "first openly gay justice."
Later, Domenech added an update to his blog: "I have to correct my text here to say that Kagan is apparently still closeted -- odd, because her female partner is rather well known in Harvard circles."
White House spokeswoman Anita Dunn told the Washington Post: "The fact that they've chosen to become enablers of people posting lies on their site tells us where the journalistic standards of CBS are in 2010." She also said Domenech has "with a history of plagiarism" and was "applying old stereotypes to single women with successful careers."
CBSNews.com Dan Farber editor in chief called the blog a "controversial statement" that "got through our filters." "After looking at the facts we determined that it was nothing but pure and irresponsible speculation on the blogger's part," he said.
The the blog was pulled Thursday night and now displays a "Page Not Found" message.
49 year-old Kagan is currently the Solicitor General of the United States. She is the first woman to hold that office after being nominated by President Barack Obama in January 2009 and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in March 2009. She spent time in Chicago as a professor at the University of Chicago Law School.
