The Chicago Fire Football Club is a Major League Soccer team based in the Windy City.
Founded on the anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire, the team was officially established on October 8, 1997.
On June 25, the organization celebrated Pride Night at its home base inside Soldier Field. Folks were met with colorful free fans as they entered the premises and in the south courtyard, Lakeside Pride played classic songs.
Queer artist Paul Octavious rang the alarm to begin the match between Chicago Fire and the Philadelphia Union. The Divas sang cover tunes and DJ Play continued spinning music throughout the evening. Exuberant Fire followers brought their own instruments and noise makers to keep the energy high until the bitter end, where Philadelphia triumphed.
Fireworks finished out the festivities as guests exited the park feeling included, thanks to diverse programming.
To improve next year's Pride party in 2026, before a move to the new stadium in 2028, is to include more LGBTQ+ representation in the schedule and building a loyal queer following is crucial to the success of this special night in the future. This can be amplified through advertising and creating more awareness in the community. There is a rainbow of possibilities to explore in the coming years as the success of Chicago Fire continues to grow.
Presenting a float in the Pride Parade as the Chicago Fire did this year is a good step in the right direction.
