Rainbows are everywhere this June but should be celebrated year-round. The rainbow flag has become a powerful symbol for the LGBTQ+ community and unifies the group together in solidarity.
The colors reflect a spectrum of diversity and were originally assembled by an artist named Gilbert Baker in 1978. Over the years the flag has evolved a bit and recently had additional colors added for further representation.
Currently, it can reflect safety for many and signal to others when someone is an ally or a part of the LGBTQ+ population.
