The Dawson, located in Chicago's River West at 730 W Grand Ave., knows how to pack in the patrons. Not only do they have a top notch menu that demands return trips, but lively jazz is presented on the second floor on Wednesdays beginning now through March 13.
The fun begins at 7 p.m. and runs through 10 p.m. It's curated by musician John Sutton who will bring in various live acts.
Prohibition themed cocktails are offered along with regular libations such as the Flying Shoes made with Old Forester bourbon, pimm's, maple, lime and pinot noir.
There are hot cocktails to warm you up in wintertime, so begin with the Stars Hollow, consisting of Sacred Bond brandy, pistachio honey and coffee. Curl up by the fireplace upstairs and sip on this one for a bit!
The appetizer menu can be overwhelming with so many tasty items to try.
We began with the chicken-fried lobster and could have eaten a double order easily. Shishito peppers can be tough to find in the city, so add it on to whatever you choose.
For an entree, the lamb shank was rich and tasted unique thanks to a mixtures of ingredients in the sauce. Another option is the grilled prime ribeye that is prepared over an open fire.
You can't go wrong on the sides, but the garlic mashed potatoes and the brussel sprouts make a good place to start.
To finish things off, the bourbon caramel blondie sundae pairs perfectly with an old fashioned or choose from the massive high-end whiskey menu to wash it all down.
The Dawson will pack in the guests every day, so reservations are encouraged and can be locked down at The-Dawson.com or by calling 312-243-8955 today.
