That Ship Has Sailed

The 89th Progressive Insurance Chicago Boat Show sailed into town over the weekend before hitting the road on the night of Jan. 9. it showed that size matters with the biggest one of them all named The Queen of the Show, a 52 foot luxury yacht.

There were opportunities to control small ships with remotes and fish in the Huck Finn Trout Pond. Seminars were offered to help upcoming sailors learn how to begin or advance in their expertise. Sailing simulators gave people the chance to test their skills in front of a crowd.

If someone worked up a thirst, Corona was on hand to wash things down and help attendees relax.

For next year hopeuflly benches are installed and maybe a shoe rack for people removing their shoes before climbing aboard these mammoth cruisers. Overall, the sock hop was fun and rare chance to experience the good life aboard an expensive vessel.

Chicagoans like to plan their trips when it's cold outside, so the 2019 Chicago Travel and Adventure Show at Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont had perfect timing over this same weekend.

There were 250 exhibitors that ranged from nearby Wisconsin all the way to Australia. There was plenty to see and do such as scuba dive or ride a camel over two days at the venue.

Attendees were able to gather information from such interesting destinations like the Cook Islands and Guatemala being among them. Speakers such Pauline Frommer and Rick Steves gave lectures to fill traveler's heads full of ideas. This was extremely helpful to get those travel juices flowing and assist in exploring the world outside of Illinois.
