Festival Fights Rain

The North Coast Music Festival turned nine in 2018 and has settled well in its spot in Union Park. This art and music festival is usually held over Labor Day weekend annually and has had weather challenges in the past.

Last year rain pounced down on Post Malone but diehard fans battled it out to see him perform. That was a smart move since his recent Lollapalooza appearance was a madhouse with attendance packing in the area. Malone is only headed to bigger venues in the future.

For up and coming acts this year I would put some money on DVSN, a Canadian duo made up of Daniel Daley and Nineteen85. It was the perfect opening act for soul singer Miguel.

The audience was warmed up and reading for the R&B crooner until the rain came down in buckets. The lightning forced an evacuation and the fans ran screaming, which caused more hysteria. Quietly exiting was too much for the hyped up attendees that night apparently.

The next day started with a delay and an all new lineup, this time with DJ Snake headlining bringing a more electronic feel to the crowd.

From the food trucks to the vendor booths there was plenty to do at the festival other than just listen to exciting new acts. There was even a popular silent disco full of DJs spinning tunes.

Once again the weather forced evacuation much to the despair of partiers in the park. A comped ticket was added to Sunday for the frustated ticket buyers.

Luckily for British band Jamiroquai things went smoothly on day three. Jay Kay borught the party and that was just what the people needed.

Sunday was the busiest day in a festival that drew around 45,000 people over weekend.
