Baconfest Busts Out

Nearly four tons of bacon descended down upon the UIC Forum for the eighth annual Baconfest Chicago on April 30 and May 1.

Booth after booth of sponsors each tried their own take on bacon.

Places like Kuma's Corner didn't have the wait at the store level. Their bacon fat cheddar biscuit with bourbon bacon honey was delish.

There were a few unusual combinations like Carnivale's bacon cheddar cheesecake or Jellyfish's maki roll with bacon. Breakfast ideas seemed to pair well of course with Lookwood's bacon and eggs. Bacon wrapped dates were at several stations and were fine if not overcooked.

The final over the top moment was Mity Nice Bar & Grill's chicken wings wrapped in bacon.

It was time to run out of there with my curled tail between my legs!

To wash bacon bits down there were many alcoholic libations. On the beer front Goose Island, Revolution, Lagunitas, and Old Style were all present.

Tito's Handmade Vodka and Ole Smoky Tennessee Moonshine kept our spirits up.

Koval Distllery was a new discovery at the event but turned out to be Chicago's first distillery since the mid-1800s. Where have I been?

Visit baconfestchicago.com for updates and infomation about next year. This festival sells out quickly so keep your eyes peeled. VIP tickets are worth the price before the hoards of bacon lovers create large lines for a piece of pork.

It all goes to a good cause with the Greater Chicago Food Depository raising money while crowds pig out at the same time.
