Le Switch Bon

About Face Theatre premiered the romantic comedy Le Switch at Theatre Wit, 1229 W. Belmont Ave., and Chicago audiences are already happy they did.

Celebrating a 20th season, this theater troupe not only throws some of the best fundraisers in the city but know how to put on a delightful show. Immediately one wonders why don't they have their own space with productions as good at Goodman or Steppenwolf?

It's a sign of good writing when audiences can identify with the script and the situations presented. Philip Dawkins hits all the right notes on this one.

Who hasn't lost their heart in a foreign country? It is rarely acted upon but in this case it is a engaging to see that happen. Collin Quinn Rice captures the language barrier well. The only complaint about Stephen Cone is his hair doesn't change over the years but one character makes fun it so I think they are aware. He really does a great job of embodying a gay bookworm. He has a moment on a park bench with his sister that many of us can relate to.

Having seen La Shawn Banks portray classical roles in the past with tricky dialogue, this is a part where he really shines flamboyantly. He has some zingers, although the Snooki joke falls flat, maybe she was a meatball back then but not for audiences now.

Elizabeth Ledo grounds the show in realism and Mitchell J. Fain has some nice moments but covers familiar territory.

The set and costumes are stylish and fit the piece perfectly. Le Switch is a top notch show that will most likely pack audiences in until next month. Extension possibly? Broadway bound? Movie of the week? Let's hope so.
