On the front page of Gay Life:

"After two years of totally independent operations, Gay Horizons, Inc. and the Rogers Park Gay Center, have announced the merger of the fund-raising committees of the two organizations. This joint committee will be responsible for raising funds necessary to meet the 1977 budgets of the two organizations.

Also on the front page of Gay Life:

A letter to the editor in Gay Life reads:

"Your paper has taken a stand against racism in the past, but you really goofed with your headline on the article about Frannie Golde ('Little Yid Makes Big'). The use of a derogatory name for any ethnic group is racism in the highest degree! I must admit I was certainly disappointed, and hope you'll watch this sort of thing in the future."

Editor: "Our apologies! We used the term because it was used by Ms. Golde in the article, entirely in fun we're sure. As another friend stated, 'It wasn't so bad to see it in the article ...but in the headline. Again, we sincerely apologize."

1997

The movie "Marvin's Room," starring Meryl Streep and Dianne Keaton, is showing at 600 N. Michigan and Old Orchard.

In Gay Chicago this week:

"This could be the year gay-themed films dominate Hollywood's awards season. Gossip maven Billy Masters writes in Gay Chicago:

"Which brings us to Mariah. Look, I have nothing but respect for Miss Carey. Two years ago she was locked up in a nut house, and her career had less life than Dick Clarke's right side. But she's back with the biggest record of not only her career, but anyone's career. That said, Mimi is a big, strapping girl-she's five foot nine without heels (and you know she likes those high heels). Watching her on New Year's Eve with Times Square as her backdrop, poured into that babydoll, breasts propped up with more blush on 'em than on her cheeks, walking in that tip-toe, hunched over way like she's a little bit of a thing-she looked like Mothra attacking Manhattan. Come on, Mimi-you're better than that."

Article in Gay Chicago begins:

"The Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded Chicago House $1 million to expand its Fred Woods Home in the Uptown neighborhood, which provides housing for families affected by HIV and AIDS. With the Section 811 capital advance, Chicago House, will create six new apartments for families, which will provide a permanent home to an additional 15 children and their parents who are affected by HIV/AIDS."
