Amuse takes bar food seriously

Fri. November 8, 2024

Amuse takes common bar food seriously and elevates the standard to a much higher level. Located to the right of the entrance of the luxurious Swissotel Chicago, 323 East Upper Wacker Drive, Amuse has recently revised its menu and was renovated in 2016.

The restaurant has open seating in an inviting concept as guests enter the property. Not to be confused with The Palm on the other side of the lobby, Amuse is an elongated lounge perfect for socializing and working remotely.

A warm fireplace is centered in the middle of the establishment to section off the massive space. A server will greet diners as they enter the area and ours was friendly and knowledgeable at the time of the visit. Hours begin at 6:30 a.m. then switch to lunch and dinner service at 11:30 a.m. to end at 10 p.m.

There's a convenient takeout menu for those on the go with breakfast treats and specialty coffees or stop to enjoy the stellar cuisine on the spot in a modern atmosphere.

The Amuse mixologist's latest concoction is a mescal tequila-based drink called El Panal with Swissotel honey syrup made from onsite beehives. If one is looking for a spirit-free beverage sip on the refreshing virgin mojito. Beers steer towards local brewers such as Goose Island 312, Revolution and Half Acre offerings.

Experience charcuterie delights with the cheese plate to pair with a wide range of wines, many of the companies currently chosen are based in California. The flatbread with tomato sauce, mozzarella, basil and drizzled with garlic oil was a strong starter right out of the gate and standard salads were up to par with either a Caesar or Cobb.

The arancini was coated in breadcrumbs and then deep fried before gracing the top of a bed of marinara sauce. This Italian delight was packed with creamy spinach, cheese and risotto rice rolled into a perfect ball.

The two lean patties slid between warm buns satisfied that hunger craving thanks to the Smash Burger complete with fries on the side.

To top it all off the rich, flourless Swissotel Chocolate Cake dessert was plated for romance and should be adored by people who are vegan and gluten-free.

Swing by before or after work in a prime location for foot traffic in the Lakeshore East neighborhood of Chicago.

While Amuse doesn't focus on humor, it does provide a muse for this talented chef who has curated and executed a menu with just the right amount of Swisshotel flare

The Santa Suite is right upstairs on the 41st floor and opens on November 15, 2024. Find further holiday information at swissotelchicagosantasuite.com and more on Amuse at swisshotel.com.
