Pick Petit Pomeroy as the place to be

After being founded in 2018, Ballyhoo Hospitality has now opened its 11th restaurant with Petit Pomeroy. Located at 748 North State Street and sharing an entrance with the Gemini Grill, this quaint taste of France is tucked away upstairs in an elegant setting.

The name Pomeroy refers to an orchard of apple trees and this new River North spot was blossoming on opening night. A green apple drink called Jus de Jardin paved the way to a healthy start with cucumber, ginger, spinach and celery mixed together. This salad in a glass paired well with the Warm Tomato Tarte appetizer. This pizza influenced aperitif satisfied while hit the spot thanks to a fresh flaky crust topped with tangy tomato sauce goodies.

The Steak Tartare simplified a complicated dish by mincing meat and crowning it with a quail egg. French-focused cuisine staples such as the Escargots à la Bourguignonne and Onion Soup Gratinée with gruyere cheese are offered in the pour commencer section of the menu.

The chef is skilled at buttering up diners and no expense is spared. The Steak a la Bordelaise was perfectly charred, topped with Mâitre d'Butter and was served with skinny pommes frites and garlic aioli on the side for dipping.

Le Poulet Cajun may have a spicy-sounding title, but this refers to a sliced spice-rubbed boneless chicken breast that is bathed in a beurre blanc sauce, accompanied by fries and a small mesclun salad.

Wind down with a French 75 cocktail or a premium coffee before diving into dessert. The powerful Chocolate Pot de Creme or a slice of Buck Russell's Red Velvet Cake with rich, cream cheese frosting are wise choices to combine with after-dinner drinks.

The creators of this French bistro have learned what works from the Pomeroy Winnetka location and have planted it in the heart of the city to watch the business grow. A patio is planned for next year and a private room with sliding doors can be opened to accommodate more guests with additional seating.
