Living in a Barbie World at the Malibu Cafe

Wed. June 7, 2023

By Jerry Nunn

Malibu Barbie Cafe opened with much fanfare and a great amount of pink. Presented by Bucket Listers and Derek Berry, creator of pop-up experiences Saved by the Max and Golden Girls Kitchen, this colorful experience has already successfully debuted in New York.

Located at 324 South Racine Avenue in Chicago, Illinois, this 1970s-inspired spot could have been bigger, but it certainly is bold.

Barbara Millicent Roberts was first introduced as a fashion doll in 1959 and seems more popular than ever these days. This uniquely pink place will certainly stir up an appetite for the upcoming Barbie fantasy film that premieres in theaters on July 21, 2023.

The timing of opening in the West Loop on the seventh of June is perfect to create an outdoor summer beach vibe and the roller skating rink adds to that fun factor. Ages above five years old can sign a waiver and enjoy the rink during their reservation time. Some safety gear is provided and guests are encouraged to bring their own equipment as well. Children under two years old do not need a ticket.

The food is impressive thanks to Master Chef semi-finalist Becky Brown who rolled out the menu. Some of the tasty items offered are the Pacific Paradise Rainbow Pancakes and the California Dreamin' Club Sandwich. The Live Your Dream Grilled Cheese is hearty with toasted sourdough bread fig jam and gruyere cheese. Sip on a Shore Thing Pink Lemonade or Think Pink Margarita made with Puebla Viejo Tequila and watermelon juice. Finish off your dining experience with a dessert such as the Anything Is Possible Sundae or brightly colored cake pop.

There are plenty of photograph opportunities to explore in the indoor and outdoor spaces including a large Barbie box to pose inside and ride a big wave on a surfboard.

As guests exit they may stop by the gift shop for exclusive merchandise including dolls and t-shirts.

Barbs should come dressed for success in pink clothing and be ready to live their dazzling dream inside this immersive world.

The pricing seems reasonable and tickets include a choice of entree and side item within the 90-minute timed seating arrangement.

Visit BucketListers.com to book your fantastic plans in plastic before time runs out on September 15, 2023.
