Out British singer Calum Scott captivates at The Vic Theatre

On April 7, Chicago was treated to a night filled with music and entertainment at The Vic Theatre. Out British singer and songwriter Calum Scott kicked off things with a dynamic set that captivated the audience early in the evening.

He had strong vocals from the beginning that grew into a climatic end before the headliners went on. People in the front sang along to "Rise" and "Rhythm Inside." His humor was charming as he spoke directly to the spectators about his journey in music. While his previous band Maroon 4 sounds like a bad joke, it is actually true that he toured with the tribute band in the past.

His final song had him hitting powerful notes that left people breathless with his Britain's Got Talent version of the cover Robyn track "Dancing on My Own." He promised to return to Chicago once more music is released but no official date is been planned yet.

Irish rock band The Script took their place shortly after and began with "Superheroes." The singalong hit "Rain" came next and frontman Danny O'Donoghue strutted his stuff around the stage. This charismatic singer from Dublin used his height and voice to build the crowd into a frenzy.

Many in the room knew every word to each song as the band plowed through their past hits. Neon lights were used effectively along with sporadic strobe lights. The set was created for a much bigger venue and crammed onstage, but the visuals were toned down at the beginning and eventually ramped up by the end.

O'Donogue gave Adam Lambert performance vibes that night and jumped into the throng to play the guitar solo in the midst of a packed hall. He basically was busking in the middle of the room without asking for donations.

The concert satisfied the many ticketholders that turned out to see their favorite performers in person. The musicians all expressed how grateful they were to be back performing live in front of this loyal gathering of onlookers.

What is next for these talented young lads? Only time will tell but until then the tour rolls on! Follow them at TheScriptMusic.com and for more on Scott head to CalumScott.com.
