I'm pretty content lounging by a pool while on vacation, hopefully with a Pina Colada within arm's reach. Venturing to a beach is perfect, too, and I always like the refreshing jump in the water to cool off.
Hearing about Bucket List Traveling, I certainly was intrigued.
"Bucket List Traveling is about that ultimate trip or experience, one that seems almost out of reach ... but not quite," said Kara Rosner, a vice-president at Miami-based Diamond Public Relations. "Bucket List Traveling is something that might require effort, whether that means effort in planning for, saving (money) for, or more. But Bucket List Traveling is definitely possible. It's big, but do-able.
"I think (vacationing) used to be more about an iconic or well-known landmark, but it's become more personalized and experiential in nature, and more specific. It's 'I want to go here and do this,' not just 'I want to see this.'"
Bucket List Travel truly is a person's preferences and what gets him or her excited.
Hey, it can be simple, too. Take, for instance, the aforementioned Pina Colada, or anything food-related. "Culinary travel is huge," Rosner noted. The Caribe Hilton in Puerto Rico is a perfect spot for the perfect Pina Colada. So I'll offer "Try a Drink Where it Originated" as one of the Bucket List Travel Top 10.
"Enjoying something iconic in the place it was conceived has a cool-factor," Rosner said. "Who wouldn't want to have a Pina Colada on vacation, let alone have one at the place it was born," Rosner said.
The Caribe Hilton does a great job telling its story with a whole history wall dedicated to it, and of course the original recipe is still being used.
"I love that everyone's Travel Bucket List can be so (different)," Rosner said. "What sounds boring to one person is a dream trip for another. It's so unique to each person. And the inspiration behind a bucket list experience also is really interesting as it can come from so many different place – from a great article, a friend's story about a trip, or a beautiful picture can evoke that, 'I want to do that' feeling and your bucket list grows.
"Also, for me, a travel bucket list experience is about the people involved, (perhaps) taking kids (or friends) to do something that I know they'll find incredible. On its own it might not be a bucket list for me, but you factor other people in to it, and it also changes the point of view."
Let's look at a top 10 list of Bucket List Travel opportunities, in no particular order:
