Mason Meats Chicago

Sun. September 9, 2018

By Jerry Nunn

Tucked away inside the Found Chicago Hotel in River North, Mason opened with lots of pomp and circumstance recently adding to the bustling restaurant area. H. Wood Group from LA has brought a beautifully designed dining room that is cozy and classic at the same time.

The outside makes the place at 613 N. Wells Street almost easy to miss, but the inside is the perfect setting for date night.

Start off with the stinging nettles cavetelli containing lobster, chive and bread crumbs. It also has grana padana and we asked our knowledgeable server what that was. Turns out it's a cheese from Italy.

There are many seafood options to choose from, but we headed for the beef wellington that was served tableside. This puff pastry delicacy was rich and delicious.

The sides along with it were tasty with roasted broccolini and mashed potatoes.

Looking for something to wash it down? Try a rum daiquiri with pineapple. For dessert the creme brulee finished me off with popcorn custard and cracker jacks on top.

There were some opening night jitters with service being heightened and a little obtrusive. Coffee was forgotten to be offered at dessert time, but overall this was a pleasant experience and a welcome addition to the neighborhood.
