Founded in 1992 by Scott Harris, Francesca's Restaurant Group has grown to massive proportions with 33 locations in four states. Some of my newer favorite places like Davanti and for dougnuts Glazed and Infused are all part of the party. Fat Rosie's sounds up my alley but is located all the way in Frankfort, Illinois.
Having tried Mia Francesca in Lakeview 20 years ago I was anxious to try the one located close to my house in Edgewater at 1039 W. Bryn Mawr Avenue. There is a lot of construction on the exterior currenty, but that doesn't seem to stop the hungry minions from coming in.
The menu is Italian inspired with other offerings that are just as good. The Calamari Fritti was thankfully not the chewy kind that many restaurants tragically serve. It went down smooth with a side of marinara.
For a main entree the signature dish of Pollo alla Romana hit all the right notes. Some may call it simple, but on a cold day it will warm you up like a hug from an Italian grandma.
The salmon was also quite good for an alternate option.
You can even get the Davanti Burger without going to the sister location if that is to your liking.
The menu changes monthly and there are gluten-free options available for those in need.
To finish things off the Sloppy Sundae is large but not overwhelming with vanilla gelato topped with chocolate sauce, and caramel sauce.
The Tiramisu was delicious but not made on property so keep that in mind.
This location was just as good in quality as the others and the service was simpy impeccable with a loyal waitstaff that has worked there over the many years.
Make a reservation online at MiaFrancesca.com or call 773-506-9261 as the place fills up quickly.
Say, "Ciao" to some Italian comfort food today!
