Sometimes you feel like a nut and the other night I did after attending a preview for a new spot at 13 W. Division called Coconutz. With a Carribean flair things were kept light and festive.
THe drink list one can expect to be very tropical with mai tais and mind erasers. A lot of rum to go with sangria and beer on tap.
Snacks are influenced by Puerto Rico, Asia, and South America. The Canaba bites section of the menu has a variety of food to sample plus a few desserts.
Towards the back of the narrow room is a bamboo bar and open kitchen. Executive Chef Sean Welker brings in his flavor with experience from Belly Q and Farmhouse. Try the lemongrass meatballs or the midnight sliders with ham and a Cuban influence.
On the weekends there is a DJ spinning to add to the party.
The owners have made the most of the space with a nice sized TV and furniture matching the decor.
Coconutz feels like a vacation space and is a little secluded looking judging from the outside. The area around there can be tricky for parking so public transportation is a good option especially with the potent punch being served.
The drinks were not overwhelming though such as Three Dots and a Dash, who also has a tiki theme, but is heavy hand on the liquor.
With a name like this we could welcome another location in Boystown. Dive Bar might be the closest thing we have to this at the current time.
Plan a luau today and bring your friends with more info at www.coconutzchicago.com including hours of operation.
