"Cartography 101" Art Exhibit

Saturday, August 27, 2005, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM  |  view details and directions

"Cartography 101" art exhibit opens at Johnsonese Gallery in Chicago’s Bucktown Neighborhood As author Julia Cameron stated, "The artist is a cartographer; he maps the world. The world within him, and the world as he sees it." Throughout history maps have taken on meaning well beyond their practical application of providing directions. Artists have always been interested in maps. "Cartography 101" features art inspired by maps from 16 artists from across the US. Some pieces are overtly political as you may expect, but other artists use maps as a starting point for the unexpected. This is not your father's geography class. The opening reception will be Saturday August 27th from 6 to 8 pm. The show hangs from August 24th through September 24th.
