The Queen of My Dreams

Against the backdrop of a shared obsession with Bollywood fantasy, Mariam, a Pakistani Muslim woman, and her Canadian-born daughter Azra come of age in two different eras. In 1999 Toronto, queer Muslim grad student Azra is happily studying acting and living with her girlfriend, far from her strictly religious mother. When her father passes away unexpectedly, Azra returns to Pakistan, reliving childhood memories and navigating her complex relationship with her mother. Featuring Amrit Kaur from THE SEX LIVES OF COLLEGE GIRLS in impressive dual roles, the film, directed by former Chicago resident Fawzia Mirza (SIGNATURE MOVE), explores the clash between East and West, past and present, and the universal bonds between mothers and daughters. Featuring vibrant visuals, compelling performances, and a heartfelt exploration of cultural and generational divides, THE QUEEN OF MY DREAMS is a wonderful celebration of cinema and family.
