Alexandra Billings (TRANSPARENT, THE PERIPHERAL) stars as Malibu, a trans woman whose historic Toronto gay bar Mandyâ??s is facing demolition to make way for a new high rise. While out in the street protesting the barâ??s destruction, she encounters 17-year-old Egyptian teenager Nabil, newly arrived from Cairo to live with his estranged father, following the death of his beloved mother, who was a seamstress. When Nabil learns that Malibu makes her own outfits, he asks her to teach him to sew so that he can create an elaborate dress his mother designed but never finished. Malibu takes him under her wing and introduces him to Torontoâ??s drag nightlife, and as Nabil comes into his own queer identity, he realizes that he not only needs to sew his motherâ??s dress, but that he needs to wear it.
