To Kill The Beast

Agustina San Martin’s mesmerizing debut is a fever dream of a movie – a literal and metaphorical journey into a luxuriant, tropical jungle where local myths and legends abound. Emilia, a young woman from Buenos Aires, is looking for her long-missing brother as she arrives at a small town covered in mist on the border of Argentina and Brazil. Even before she reaches her Aunt Ines’ hostel where she’s staying, a local warns Emilia of a dangerous beast that is roaming the village at night, believed to be the spirit of an evil man taking the form of different animals. “Borders here are just a line on a map,” the local adds mysteriously. Emilia is in the midst of exploring her own borders and finds herself involved with a female guest at the hostel. On a journey to sexual awakening, Emilia will have to confront her past in order to kill the beast. Unsettling, sensual, and visually hypnotic, prepare for a film Variety called “an emotional, erotic journey of self-discovery which plays out like a boat upon a dream.”
