Reeling 2021: Global Trans Stories (Short Programs)

Reeling: The Chicago LGBTQ+ International Film Festival presents Global Trans Stories (Short Programs).

These four shorts from around the world showcase the spectrum of trans experiences. From facing medical gatekeeping, reconnecting to past friends, and navigating modern love, this program highlights distinct cultural differences and a shared trans experience. In THE FISH WITH ONE SLEEVE a Japanese woman working in Tokyo decides to reconnect with her childhood friends, unsure of how they’ll accept her. EKAI is a documentary about a young transman who took his own life in 2018 and spotlights trans activism against medical gatekeeping. In OUR PAIN, an Iranian transman and his lover seek gender affirming surgery, but must deal with his father trying to stop them. And in DUSTIN a crew of trans club goers navigate a night of melancholy and euphoria.

Available to stream in the U.S. only.
