Sober and Proud BBQ & Dance Party
Pride Month takes a strong stance against discrimination and violence towards the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer communities to promote self-affirmation, dignity, and equal rights while building community and celebrating diversity. Sober and Proud is Chicago’s longest-running sober pride celebration, honoring and respecting those living free from substance dependency. The residents of Bonaventure House, define what BH is. Date: Saturday, June 23, 2018 Time: 6PM-11PM. Location: Bonaventure House, 825 W Wellington This year’s theme, “Gold Party”, will provide the community with sober celebration, including drag performances, food, music, dancing, art and lots of good times! The event is free to all, with a suggested (not required) donation of $10 to cover the cost of food, beverages, and giveaways. This celebration honors the roots of Alexian Brothers Housing and Health Alliance, and celebrates the many lives transformed through the programs and services offered to the LGBTQ community. Bonaventure House began in 1989 by serving those individuals living with HIV/AIDS, eventually expanding to a broader community recovering from active addiction/substance-use dependency, and leading to independent, healthy living.
