An American Psalmbook: Cantate Chicago Presents Free Choral Concert

Cantate Chicago, conducted by Dr. Benjamin Rivera, will present a free choral concert of psalms set by American composers over the last 100 years. “An American Psalmbook” will feature Leonard Bernstein’s “Chichester Psalms” where the group will be joined by countertenor Carl Alexander, percussionist Matthew Kibort, harpist Michael Maganuco, and organist David White. The concert will also include beloved a cappella works such as “Four Motets” by Aaron Copland (1921) and “Alleluia” (1940) by Randall Thompson, as well as lesser-known works such as “Psalm 150” (1954) by George Rochberg, “The House of the Lord” (2000) by Daniel Pinkham, “God Is Gone Up” (1986) by Ned Rorem, and “I Will Lift Mine Eyes” (2010) by Jake Runestad. This free performance will be held Saturday, November 18, 8 PM at Church of the Ascension, 1133 N. LaSalle Dr., in Chicago.
