Voices of Joyful Rebellion - Hyde Park
Artemis Singers Presents: 2016 Pride Concert and Dance Ticket are $15 in advance and $20 suggested donation at the door. $10 for seniors (65+) and children (12 and under). The ticket price includes admission to both the concert and the dance. Join the Artemis Singers to share the Pride and celebrate with a community dance! Live DJ will be spinning for this Hyde Park event, cohosted by Affinity Community Services. If June 18 doesn't work for you, please join the group in Lakeview on June 11. In this "Voices of Joyful Rebellion" concert, we present songs of rebellion, including "Goddesses' Rage" by Chicago composer Paula Walowitz, the source of our concert title: "This violation of all that is holy must stop. It's gone on too long. Voices of joyful rebellion are swelling. The power of life is again growing strong." In the proud tradition of Artemis Singers, we will be performing woman-affirming choral music written or arranged by women, providing opportunities for lesbians to be visible, expressing sometimes-radical political perspectives, and being an integral part of the Chicago feminist women's community.
