Voices of Joyful Rebellion - Pride Concert & Dance - Lakeview
Join Artemis Singers this June as they lift our voices to entertain, to inspire, and to break the bounds of the status quo. Artemis Singers Presents: 2016 Pride Concert and Dance. Ticket are $15 in advance and $20 suggested donation at the door. $10 for seniors (65+) and children (12 and under). The ticket price includes admission to both the concert and the dance. Share the Pride and celebrate with a community dance! DJs Nicky and Ruth will be spinning for this Lakeview event. If June 11 doesn't work for you, try June 18 in Hyde Park. The group draws the name of our concert from the piece "Goddesses' Rage" by Chicago composer Paula Walowitz. The lyric proclaims, "We are resisting the newest dark age with old witches' wisdom and goddesses' rage. This violation of all that is holy must stop. It's gone on too long. Voices of joyful rebellion are swelling. The power of life is again growing strong." The songs of rebellion decry war and senseless bloodshed, racism, the objectification of women, and religious fundamentalism. And we embrace environmentalism, education for girls, and freedom of thought. In the proud tradition of Artemis Singers, we will be performing woman-affirming choral music written or arranged by women, providing opportunities for lesbians to be visible, expressing sometimes-radical political perspectives, and being an integral part of the Chicago feminist women's community.
