Solid State: Building a Foundation for Homeless Youth
A one night only art how and auction to support the Youth Housing Initiative! A native Chicagoan, Artist Michelle Weiner was first exposed to the "needle arts" as a young girl when family members taught her to crochet, make lace and embroider. Those skills were expanded and formalized when she earned a BFA in textile design from Northern Illinois University in 1980. After retiring from a robust career of more than three decades in commercial interiors, Michelle resurrected her embroidery practice. The convergence of computer generated images with traditional embroidery materials resulted in jewel-like abstractions that allow the artist to express herself and celebrate the way she views the world: one stitch at a time. (RSVP by February 23rd to events@centeronhalsted.org)
