Hush Up Sweet Charlotte
Writer-director Billy Clift follow up his spot-on homage of the 1962 Bette Davis-Joan Crawford camp classic WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? with another camp parody, this time sending up the 1964 Davis-Olivia de Havilland southern gothic grand guignol HUSH, HUSH SWEET CHARLOTTE. Decades after her lover has been brutally killed in an unsolved murder, reclusive, wealthy shut in Charlotte (Matthew Martin), attended only by her sassy housekeeper Velma (Mink Stole, HAIRSPRAY, SERIAL MOM, FEMALE TROUBLE) is being forced to leave her decaying southern mansion, which is scheduled to be bulldozed for an incoming highway. Charlotte isn’t deterred no matter how often Dr. Drew (David Millbern) and everyone else insists she has to move: she’s sent for her cousin Melanie (Jeffrey Roberson aka Varla Jean Merman, GIRLS WILL BE GIRLS) to stop the demolition. But Melanie’s arrival sets in motion a series of melodramatic (and very hilarious) events that threatens Charlotte’s very sanity! Queer film faves Heklina and Jason Stuart costar in this hilarious, gender bending campfest.
