Naz and Maalik
In this exciting debut, writer-director Jay Dockendorf focuses on a rarely seen aspect of LGBTQ culture. Naz and Maalik, two young black Muslim teens, spend the night together but realize that they must keep their relationship a secret. The following day they wander the streets of Brooklyn, awash in the glow of their new summer romance. But their bliss is short-lived when an undercover FBI agent mistakenly tags the young lovers as being involved in an illegal gun trade. The sweet promise of young love soon transforms NAZ & MAALIK into a serious, contemplative study of racism and religion in America.
