Portrait of a Serial Monogamist

Elsie (Diane Flacks) is a lesbian variation on the legend of Don Juan – an irresistible chick magnet who moves from relationship to relationship and proudly proclaims herself a serial monogamist. Happily skipping from one woman to the next with an eye out for her next conquest (even as she zips around Toronto on her ten speed), Elsie is brought up short when she begins to discover deeper feelings for the ex-girlfriend she has suddenly tossed over for a younger woman. Driven by the whip smart performance of Flacks, who exudes sexy confidence and crack timing in a series of asides addressed directly to the camera, this breezy romantic dramedy has delighted festival audiences who have fallen under its whimsical spell.
