Fashion & 80s nostalgia on display at Vintage Garage Chicago in August Monthly all-vintage market in Uptown goes ‘Back to the Future’ for 80s-themed event 1985 was a huge year in pop culture - think Ferris Bueller, Like a Virgin and the Superbowl Shuffle. 30 years ago seems like yesterday, and Vintage Garage Chicago is bringing it all back at the August 16 all-vintage market in Uptown (5051 N. Broadway) in the city’s most exciting (for one day each month!) parking garage. The market runs from 10am to 5pm. “The 80s were a treasure culturally, with movies, music and clothes,” said Melissa Sands, Vintage Garage Chicago producer. “Going through high school in the mid 80s, it all really sticks with me, and our 80s-themed show is always my favorite. Now if I could just get all my friends from high school to show up, the day would be perfect!” Vintage Garage Chicago features 100 of Midwest’s best vintage and antique dealers, stocking anything and everything vintage, from midcentury furniture and decor, to retro fashion, jewelry and so much more. Shoppers and vendors are encouraged to dress for each month’s theme - so be on the lookout for shoulder pads, kitschy tshirts and big hair. Resident vinyl DJ John Arensdorff from Audio Archeology will be on hand spinning an endless assortment of 80s classics. Fashion aficionados take note: there’s no better place in Chicago to scope some serious vintage street style. Shoppers at Vintage Garage Chicago dress in their retro best for the market event each month, and the outfits, down to the hair, shoes and accessories are to die for. “Our shoppers are the best!” Sands said. “We have such a loyal customer base, and our vendors get such a thrill seeing outfits they sold earlier in the season strut through the market the next month.” Check out Vintage Garage Chicago street style from the July Rockabilly/Tiki themed show at facebook.com/vintagegaragechicago or follow on Instagram @vintagegaragechi for daily style and vintage inspiration.
