Max and the Others (Max und die Anderen)
Richard Rossmann (Austria, 2013, 78 min) Max, 61, is a former lieutenant colonel in the German army and is good at ordering his life. He keeps his sex life highly organized and only practices safe sex with his leather friends, escort clients, and his boyfriend Dima, a Ukrainian 25 years his junior. Max is HIV positive, but he doesn’t let that ruin his open relationships. Everything changes when Dima has a routine checkup, however, and suddenly Max and Dima must travel between Berlin and Kiev, from oppressive family gatherings to immigration offices, and Max must decide just how much of the order in his life he is willing to give up for Dima. Showing with Short: REFUGE (Melanie Aronson, US, 2013, 12 min) Douglas Turnbaugh, a 78 year-old Manhattan intellectual with a hidden passion for whips, bondage, and younger men, relives the evolution of his sexuality. Q&A w/ Richard Rossmann (director) to follow screening
