Charles Lum & Todd Verow (UK, 2014, 88 min) AGE OF CONSENT tells the story of Hoist, London's first and only male-exclusive fetish bar and sex club. This detailed documentary expands the history of Hoist with the history of AIDS, gay gentrification, and the ongoing struggle to decriminalize homosexual activity in the United Kingdom. It includes interviews with staff (the janitor is a particularly tickling and fascinating interview), patrons, transmen, human rights activist Peter Tatchell and AIDS emeritus Doctor Joseph Sonnabend, who was one of the first doctors who would treat the mysterious epidemic in the early 1980’s.
