Many explicit clips of his films are shown in the documentary, and they illuminate how de Rome considered erotic films to be a fun, beautiful, artful thing to shoot, and not merely pornographic, which was an especially wild idea back when homosexuality was illegal. Interviews with academics are informative, but the documentary truly shines with Peter de Rome himself, who at 90-years-old was as naughty, funny, dapper, and fascinating as he was in his prime. De Rome passed away this spring, and luckily this documentary captured that fabulous personality just in time to bring him to life one last time in this endearing portrait.
