Songs For Alexis
Elvira Lind (US/Denmark, 2014, 75 min) SONGS FOR ALEXIS is a documentary that chronicles the painful ups and downs of first love. Ryan Cassata, a sensitive transgender teenager and folk singer in San Francisco, passionately loves his girlfriend Alexis, but her parents do not approve of her dating him. Alexis is forced to choose between family and love, and Ryan is forced to endure the painful experience of growing up and realizing that your first love may not last forever. Ryan’s parents provide a strong anchor for him to thrive and are role models for the rare and valuable support system a family can provide during for transgender youth. Showing with Short: MASQUERADE (Gii Ness-Chang, Australia, 2014, 8 min) Cameron, a transgirl at high school, wants only for her peers to acknowledge her as Carmen. Unfortunately, her peers and even her family are not so accepting.
